So here’s a splendid new jam from The Ocean Party. ‘Split’ is the first taste and title track from the bands 3rd album due out September 27. It’s also their first album on that excellent label SPUNK.

If you know The Ocean Party already, then you’d know that there’s a bit of sharing going on. Not only are all the members also members of other great bands, but they’re also all songwriters, and share writing and singing duties in the band. ‘Split’ showcases the rather memorable vocals of Curtis Wakeling who also sings in Velcro drummer Zac Denton, who sings in Ciggie Witch (thanks to everyone who picked me up on that – embarrassment).

This is local songwriting at it’s greatest – that commanding guitar riff on top of the drum and bass groove holds this song together. That and Curtis’ laconic, and honest vocals. Instant classic anyone?

Only that it is in fact Zac Denton, the drummer, who is singing.
