oh wow. it’s a new year, and we’re already in February. That, for many reasons, is terrifying.
January was also a pretty cool month for maamf though. As my PhD life ramps up this year, I was sure that this blog would have to take a backseat a little. But, it’s kind of been saved. Adam has come in and posted some ace stuff, and he hasn’t written anything worthy of getting the lawyers in yet, so I reckon he’s a keeper. He of course has a life of his own, so it’s not like this old thing is gonna get back into a regular posting schedule or anything. But hey, that’s what all you guys love about maamf right? It’s sporadic posts and unreliable ear for music?!
Anyway, there were still quite a few tracks that didn’t get posted in Jan. So they’re here, in this mixtape, which you can download for free because I’m nice and you guys are cool dudes for reading this.

Ok, so here it is. my favourite 10 tracks of 2012. I think I’ll let the music do the talking instead of me crapping on about how each track made my year.
All I will say though is the criteria I had for this list
- It had to be a track I kept on coming back to; and
- It had to be a track that, even on the 10th listen, was still good.
I should also mention that they’re not numbered. They’re all decent in their own way. Awwwwww.
You can stream all ten below, and if you’re keen, you can download a mix with all ten below.

Ok, so slowly we’re getting back on track. This here is the October Mixtape, chockablock full of my fave tunes of October. Some absolute stunners in here – the Lower Spectrum EP was one I kept on coming back to, as was Tame Impala‘s record, Collarbones‘s second full length, as well as the Love Migrate disc. Then there were those big massive tracks – that Hermitude remix of Presets‘ ‘Ghosts’. MY GOSH.
All of the tracks are pretty excellent…and I think it’s one of the better tapes so far.

It’s the June mixtape. Below are the tracks that have got me through the past month. It even features a small bit of a double feature working ‘Wimbledon 1980’ by Indian Wells and the Jon Hopkins piano version of ‘Modern Driveway’ originally by Luke Abbott.
This was easily the most fun mix to make, especially working with the opening rework. Once again, it features some absolutely killer tracks, from the amazing indie goodness of I, A Man, the almost tribal epicness of Jonathan Boulet to the straight out techno fantasticness of the latest track from The Presets.

Yum. Don’t know why i’m going with a food theme, but hey, i’m just going to run with it and see what happens. This track is amazing though. The Presets have been pretty quiet of late. KIM’s been off releasing discs and touring, and well, i’m not sure what Julian’s been up to. They’ve put their touch (new touch too! more on that later) on Sarah Blasko‘s new single Hold On My Heart which I believe is due out quite soon. Ms Blasko’s doing a Australian tour in October which you can can check out more deets about here. She’s also currently touring the UK supporting The Temper Trap – should be a top notch show.
Anyway, back to this remix. It’s definitely a change for The Presets. Quite discoish actually…none of that hard techy kinda stuff they were doing. But I think, as with anything The Presets do, they do it well. The guys are classically trained musos for fucks sake.
The original is a nice song. The remix just ramps it up a little and has this nice guitar groove underneath the whole thing. The remix is available over at the Triple J New Free Music Page – always some pretty good stuff over there.
Check it out just below and don’t forget to get over to the J website and download it.

The Presets are fuckin awesome. They are even better live. And…they have just won the ARIA Award for best Dance Release for their killer track Talk Like That!! The ARIA Awards are going into partnership with iTunes to make available all the performances on the iTunes store from December 1 also, so watch out for that!!
Now, I love these boys. They are both bloody talented. They have had the say in some of the biggest Aussie songs out there from Justin co-writing Straight Lines by Silverchair to Kim doing his own stellar DJ work as well as helping out on Daniel Johns’s other band The Dissociatives.
Live, wow. Saw them at Nevereverland last year and was so impressed. Easily the best of the day/night.
Anyway, this is a live version of their winning track Talk Like That.
