ok, so here we go. It’s only about a week or so late, but I’ve been pretty busy lately (mismatch.tv being a big focus). This month has seen so many awesome releases, and like always, a pretty big mix of stuff. The St Vitus Cardinals boys are doing some really sweet things at the mo (I actually had a chat to Ry about it and his solo stuff earlier on in the week). Tyler Touché is also a standout for me – he’s a friggin’ high school kid and he has production skills like that??!! It also makes me pretty hungry, french style.
Then then there’s the awesome sounds of bands like Lurch & Chief, The Smith Street Band and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard (their album is stellar!). As per usual, some tracks are available for individual download, others, you just gonna have to hear in the full tape.
Worst Friends – Neve’s For None (Faux Pas Remix)
ST VITUS CARDINALS – Allday – If You Don’t Mind (Prod. By C1)
Harts – All Too Real (Diamond Cut Remix)
Clubfeet – City Of Light (Softwar Remix)
Collarbones – Hypothermia (Feat. Guerre)
Jonti – Nightshift In Blue (Dro Carey Remix)
Bertie Blackman – Mercy Killer
The Smith Street Band – Sunshine & Technology
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Muckraker
Violent Soho – Tinderbox
Divine Fits – Would That Not Be Nice
This is a pretty big EP, absofuckinglutely complete with some of the big big big (read: BIG) names of the Aussie dance scene…and a London duo thrown in for good measure.
RÜFÜS are one of those live dance acts that are slaying it. After some large releases, the boys have put out the This Summer/Selena Remixes EP. You’ve probably noticed a few of the remixes around a bit, that Lancelot one has been getting a fair bit of coverage!
For me, it’s the Softwar remix – it messes the vocals a bit – you have to listen to hear it sit, but hell man, when it clicks, it’s one good techno remix masterpiece. You can stream that below, and if you dig, make sure you buy it.
RÜFÜS – This Summer (Softwar Remix)
Sydney disco kickers Softwar are finally out with their new EP, This Time Around. After what seems like forever for it’s release, the two…umm…body builders (it’s in their bio!) have kinda nailed that big funky deep house sound with this release. The new EP is coming through Future Classic with it being released on vinyl a couple of days ago ahead of a digital release in March (6 March on Beatport, and 20 March everywhere else). The new release is dare I say a little bit cleaner sounding when compared to their EP of last year. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though – progression in sound always keeps things fresh.
We got our faves from the four track EP just below.
ok. So tonight, VIVID LIVE begins. I am a little excited. I also live in Melbourne. And this is a two week festival. So, i’m heading up tonight and heading back Monday (Can’t afford to stay the full two weeks ya know.)
For me, it’s going to be part get away/part excitement times. We’re checking out the Leave Them All Behind party tonight which features Bag Raiders, Azari & III, Beni, Softwar, The Swiss and Softblow DJs. LINEUP ANYONE??!!
Then on Sunday night we’re checking out Architecture In Helsinki. That should be really really really great and am psyched.
So, sure, I miss out on The Avalanches, and it was a toss up between Cut Copy and Architecture in Helsinki on Sunday (I’ve seen Cutters a heap of times and I’ve never seen AiH live before). And then there’s Van She who are playing at Sneaky Sundays on Sunday afternoon. Kinda wish we booked tix to that, but then again, there’s no point in going if it’s gonna clash with AiH.
But, yes. Am still friggin happy to be heading up. The Opera House is an amazing venue, so this should be a goodun!!
To celebrate, we got a few tracks and clips just below for you.
