Magic Dirt were a big ol’ band for me. And the Adalita solo albums also took a big hold.

So, when Adalita personally recommends an act, brings them on tour and plays bass with them, then I’ll probably take some notice.

Dark Fair are a duo originally from Brisbane but now based down in Melbourne. Their new track ‘Poison’ features Adalita on bass and it’s dark – the lyrics and almost melancholic instrumentation add this sludgieness. But it’s not all doom and gloom – the sparse keys brighten the track up just enough, and that relentless pushy groove ensures that it still packs just the right amount of perkiness.

The track is taken from the bands new EP You Shouldn’t Be Mine which is due out at the end of the month.

If you dig these girls, then make sure you check ’em out on their mini run of dates. Dates below.

Sat 24 May – Trainspotters, Brisbane
Sat 31 May – The Old Bar, Melbourne
Sat 21 June – Captain Cook, Sydney

Some bloggers tend to not favour particular bands and instead choose to only post about new stuff from new bands that they haven’t featured before, or have only featured once or twice.

For those of you that have followed maamf for a while, you’ll notice that whilst I do try and post as much new stuff from bands that perhaps haven’t had much promo in the past, I still do play favourites. Violent Soho are getting up there on the post count (6 in the past 12 months). Their 90’s grunge vibe just gets me though. The dudes have a new track and new clip, the album opener ‘Dope Calypso’. It’s pretty darn impressive, and perhaps is one of the more pop sounding tracks from the album (from what I’ve heard of it).

The clip features the dudes drinking, driving, playing, walking, eating, hanging from bball rings, sitting, smoking and chillin’. Perhaps the least impressive aspect of it all is that it’s not all at the same time, but hey, you can’t win ’em all right?

Clip is pretty dope though. Makes me feel like an icecream?

(yeah, even I didn’t laugh at that one, and I cracked the fucking thing).

The dudes’ new album Hungry Ghost is out next week (Sep 6). You can preorder it on their site, and whilst you’re there why not score yourself some tix to their 7-date east coast tour in support?

Brand new Violent Soho track and clip surfaced this morning. Bloody awesome track, full of big 90’s grunge vibez. And an awesome clip, complete with babes, pools, bongs, and suburban skating.

The guys are heading out on tour over the next couple of weeks in support of ‘Neighbour Neighbour’ and also earlier single ‘Tinderbox‘. Fellow Brisbane peeps Dune Rats are main supports for the run of dates – deets below.

Thurs, Nov 15 – GoodGod, Sydney, NSW
Fri, Nov 16 – Rocket Bar, Adelaide, SA
Sat, Nov 17 – The Tote, Melbourne, VIC
Fri, Nov 23 – Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane, QLD

Ali E is a local Melbourne based singer songwriter who also plays in Melbourne punk peeps Damn Terran.

Ali has a really sweet solo track out, So It Goes. It does have that whole Adalita vibe of disorted guitar and vocal…and I like that. It does feature drums, but towards the end, and it’s restrained which lets you focus on the lyrics a lot more.

Track is taken from Ali’s debut full length which she recorded over Easter. Not sure about a release date, but hopefully soon!
