So this is what I mean when I say I’ve gotta play some catch up. Surf City are from Aukland. I know, not Australian, but the guys use to play here a bit and, well…they hold a pretty special place in this blog’s life, having made my top 10 of 2010 with their last album Kudos (before this here blog became exclusively about Australian music).

Surf City are also just a fucking great band. So, when I finally read that these guys were releasing a new album entitled We Knew It Was Not Going To Be Like This in August, I got pretty darn excited. The first taste off the new album is ‘It’s A Common Life’, a jam that is full of the fuzzed out guitar that only a New Zealand band can pull off. It also has a freakin’ killer chorus that you have to sing along to.

Some pretty quick nasty stuff for your Tuesday afternoon.

The Faults are a two-piece outta Sydneytown and do some very nice fuzzed out garagey sounding rock’n’roll.

After putting out a self produced self-titled EP last year, the gents have just released a new track, Patients, with the help of Darren Cross of Gerling/The E.L.F and Betty Airs fame. If you’re around Sydney, then make sure you catch the boys launch the new track. Deets after the track.

Patients Single Launch

Friday 16th March, GoodGod small club w/ Betty Airs + Bad Dreems (Adelaide)

Friday 30th March, Gee Wizz @ the Burdekin w/ Tom Ugly + Myth & Tropics

Pond are a three piece straight outta Perth. You may well have heard the name before, and perhaps the sound. That’s probs coz two thirds of Pond are Nick and Jay from mega superstars Tame Impala.

It’s big fuzzed out riff heavy rock’n’roll. I’m not a massive fan of Tame Impala…but I’m liking Pond. You can grab a free download of their newy Moth Wings through the Modular site (link below). Also make sure you check out the very 90’s early computer animation stylings of Fantastic Explosion of Time.

The dudes have their fourth album (yep, that’s right!) due out March 2 through Modular. Entitled Beard, Wives, Denim, it’s their first major label release. You can grab it from iTunes, grab a copy on vinyl from the Modshop or get a signed copy from JB HiFi.
