JANUARY ’14 MIX.

2014-02-10 15.47.24

oh wow. it’s a new year, and we’re already in February. That, for many reasons, is terrifying.

January was also a pretty cool month for maamf though. As my PhD life ramps up this year, I was sure that this blog would have to take a backseat a little. But, it’s kind of been saved. Adam has come in and posted some ace stuff, and he hasn’t written anything worthy of getting the lawyers in yet, so I reckon he’s a keeper. He of course has a life of his own, so it’s not like this old thing is gonna get back into a regular posting schedule or anything. But hey, that’s what all you guys love about maamf right? It’s sporadic posts and unreliable ear for music?!

Anyway, there were still quite a few tracks that didn’t get posted in Jan. So they’re here, in this mixtape, which you can download for free because I’m nice and you guys are cool dudes for reading this.

ELIZABETH ROSE.

it would seem that we may have a new r’n’b superstar. And it’s probably not who you thought.

Elizabeth Rose was that girl doing some really cool innovative electronic music. She also sang on top of her productions making her early live shows something to behold.

But now, she’s gone the r’n’b route. And it’s incredible. ‘Sensibility’ still showcases Rose’s interesting, slightly bent take on electronic pop music, but instead of more of the same, she pushes this slow jam of sorts with her distinct, powerful vocals.

There were hints of this in her single ‘The Good Life’, one of my faves of last year, but this new one really takes it and runs.

Elizabeth Rose‘s new self-titled EP is released next week. Looking forward to this one!

BEST OF 2013 – TRACKS

2014-01-06 17.06.23Ok, so here we go. This thing is finally up.

I could go on about my year and how it’s been hard man, but this kid here is finding himself a little resolutionary so I is gonna stop with that ‘ahhhh phd’s are hard and everything else has suffered as a result’ line. This here is pretty simple. Got streams of all the tracks as well as a bloody mixtape with all of them in it n shit.

The tracks below are definitely not in any kind of order, that would be too hard. But, they are the tunes that received a hell of a lot of plays by both myself and you guys. So that’s kinda cool.

Freakin’ enjoy it you guys.

ELIZABETH ROSE + EMOH INSTEAD.

ok, so this one is incredibly clubby, but mate, that Elizabeth Rose is somethin. And although I usually look the other way when I see What So Not, one half of that crew Emoh Instead has done a pretty sweet club remix of ‘Rose’s The Good Life’.

ELIZABETH ROSE.

So this new track from Elizabeth Rose is definitely her best track, and one of the standouts of the year so far. Big call, but I’m willing to go there. ‘The Good Life’ ramps up the dark pop vibes – that intro section is nuts. And whilst she doesn’t have some, dare i say, uniquely whimsical, or even worse, quirky sounding voice, her vocals, to me, still manage to stand out. I tell you what else stands out? Commas.

But quite seriously, Rose’s vocals compliment her production incredibly well, and, if you’ve ever seen her live, then you’d know that this is something she manages to pull off in style.

‘The Good Life’ feels dark, but still uplifting enough to be your end of winter jam. Mind you, have you been outside today? Bloody hell, it’s as if Summer just hit.

Also, you might have noticed on the facebook that maamf is a finalist in the pedestrian blogster awards. Doing maamf is my one true love. It’s the thing that holds the rest together (quite honestly). By shooting maamf a like, it gives me the belief that this thing here can keep on going, to keep on growing. You’re also showing your appreciation for the local music scene too! The link is bit.ly/VoteForMAAMF and it only takes one ‘like’. I’ll reward you in some new music (nothing new, I know) and also a couple of pretty special things next year. #thingsinthepipeline

MAY ’13 MIX.

may13mix

yikes. so this is kinda bumper. Like proper bumper. At 1hr and 17mins, it’s got everything you need to get nostalgic about the month just gone…or perhaps everything you need to play catch up on the month that’s just gone. Either way, it’s a solid mix.

And as a quick aside, turns out soundcloud only lets you upload 2hours worth of stuff until you have to start paying. So it’s back to the ugly wordpress player for this month.
