I mean, really, as if I wouldn’t be all gushin’ over this. I mean, as if Dick Diver‘s 3rd album Melbourne, Florida won’t make at least the top three albums of 2015. I mean, as if, even with a slight change in sound, I wouldn’t just fucking love ‘Waste The Alphabet’, the new single from the Melbourne, Victoria based band.
‘Waste The Alphabet’ is intoxicating. It’s a fuller sound than their earlier work, and there’s a propulsion to it, and a directness to it. It’s only taken me a couple of listens, but I now reckon maybe it could get in the top of this year already.
Oh haiiiii! How you doin? June was a bit of a rad old month full of heaps of great great music full of heaps of different different styles and things like that.
And without wanting to highlight one track over another, and also because writing something about every track would take me just a little too much time, and that be time that I don’t have, although by taking forever to finish off this sentence then that may not seem the case, i’ll write about just a few.
It’s hard to escape the impact the new LUCIANBLOMKAMP track will have and has already had on how electronic music is not only made but also where it can go.
Ex-pats Shorts (the project of Mikael Caterer from Love Connection as well as Scott and Charlene’s Wedding) continues that Aussie jangle tradition but instead combines it with a ‘clean’ production.
And then, of course, the new Dick Diver. It’s hard to write about ‘New Name Blues’ without simply repeating what every other interpretation has stated. What I will say though is that here’s a band that continually get better and evolve and aren’t afraid to enter into intelligent political discussion whilst still maintaining this accessible and lovely feel.

I could go on about my year and how it’s been hard man, but this kid here is finding himself a little resolutionary so I is gonna stop with that ‘ahhhh phd’s are hard and everything else has suffered as a result’ line. This here is pretty simple. Got streams of all the tracks as well as a bloody mixtape with all of them in it n shit.
The tracks below are definitely not in any kind of order, that would be too hard. But, they are the tunes that received a hell of a lot of plays by both myself and you guys. So that’s kinda cool.
Freakin’ enjoy it you guys.
Yep. Here it is. Smack bang, ready for that little nostalgia comedown that is New Years Day.
As I alluded to in the 20-11 post on Monday, this year has been a fucking full on one. It compromised of a move interstate, and heading back to uni (although I’m not sure if you can really call doing a PhD going back to uni – prolly more like doing a full-time fucking job times about 3). Those weren’t the only things that happened of course, but they were probably the two things that impacted most on maamf for 2013.
It’s also been a year when the maamf sister site MISMATCH.TV started to come into it’s own. And although it’s definitely got a bit to go and I feel as though it’s not yet at the level I reckon it can get to, it’s taken up a bit of time as well. (However, a massive thanks to my good mates/mismatchians/Melbourne music loving fanatics Lauren and Sabi for making mismatch what it is, and making that time enjoyable).
Anyway, these are the 10. The ones that I kept on returning to this year. It’s much more of a personal list this year, with a few albums either reminding me of Melbourne, and others welcoming me into the city of Sydney.
It also comes complete with a mixtape featuring two tracks from each album. Fuckin’ BUMPER. (more…)
Bit of a lacklustre month from this side in terms of posting, but man, I’m glad I get the opportunity to put all the ace songs for the month that I didn’t write about into this mixtape.
Some real summery vibes in for March – and on the most part up here it’s been pretty summery (win win).
Of course all these tracks are standouts, but if I can make a few mentions – the Camperdown & Out record is really really great. So is the Dick Diver album. And then of course anything from Lindsay Tuc is ace – that dude is your deep house wet dream. The new project from Tim Shiel (Faux Pas), Telling looks heaps promising too. And finally, man, that new Courtney Barnett track is absolutely golden – one of my faves of the year for sure.
Without further ado though, below are my fave for march.

As per usual, you can stream and download the full mix, and of course, there are a few of the tracks up for download too.

Dick Diver are seriously fucking killer. The band have a new EP
coming out on Friday OUT NOW and is the first taste of their second album due for release early next year through Chapter Music.
The first track, ‘Alice’, is a seriously ace indie pop gem. These guys have such an easy going feel to their music. It’s straight up, decent lyrics, well thrown together pop music from four of Melbourne’s best.
You can stream and purchase the EP over on the bands bandcamp page.
