MARCH ’13 MIX.
Bit of a lacklustre month from this side in terms of posting, but man, I’m glad I get the opportunity to put all the ace songs for the month that I didn’t write about into this mixtape.
Some real summery vibes in for March – and on the most part up here it’s been pretty summery (win win).
Of course all these tracks are standouts, but if I can make a few mentions – the Camperdown & Out record is really really great. So is the Dick Diver album. And then of course anything from Lindsay Tuc is ace – that dude is your deep house wet dream. The new project from Tim Shiel (Faux Pas), Telling looks heaps promising too. And finally, man, that new Courtney Barnett track is absolutely golden – one of my faves of the year for sure.

RIPLEY CALLAHAN.
An acoustic guitar and a voice. Pretty simple. And a heap of people fuck it up royally.
Ripley Callahan doesn’t though. And for a young dude (the fella’s only 17), he’s creating some really easy, honest straight up singer songwriter stuff. There’s this level of restraint it what Ripley does – he uses space really well (especially in some of the melody lines he sings).
You can check out his most recent track ‘Smile’ just below…I’ve also included the first track he uploaded to his soundcloud, ‘Bloom’. It’s over a year old, but I reckon it’s one of the best of the 8 he has up on his soundcloud. I definitely recommend you check out all the other stuff though.

THE TOP 20 ALBUMS OF 2012 – THE REST
ok. So these are the albums that nearly made my top 10 albums of 2012. As I’ve spoken about on the facebook page, I’ve decided to make the top 10 just Australian albums. The past year has seen a big shift for maamf, with the focus now purely on local stuff (hint hint to those annoying emails I get in the middle of the night talking about the latest rad band from Brooklyn or somethin).
The one thing that hasn’t changed however is the kind of stuff I post. It is all over the shop, which genuinely is a reflection of my listening habits. Because it is so broad though, it means that I haven’t been able to listen to every single release. There are albums that are topping other people’s lists, and I’m sure they’re great, but there’s just not enough time in the day to actually give everything a listen.
So, of course, this is subjective – it’s my favourite of 2012.
The 10 albums listed below started off in my shortlist of 20, but, for me, were tipped at the post by the other ten. The more favourite 10 will be revealed in the next few days, and in order too. There’s no order at all to the one’s below.
