VIVID LIVE
ok. So tonight, VIVID LIVE begins. I am a little excited. I also live in Melbourne. And this is a two week festival. So, i’m heading up tonight and heading back Monday (Can’t afford to stay the full two weeks ya know.)
For me, it’s going to be part get away/part excitement times. We’re checking out the Leave Them All Behind party tonight which features Bag Raiders, Azari & III, Beni, Softwar, The Swiss and Softblow DJs. LINEUP ANYONE??!!
Then on Sunday night we’re checking out Architecture In Helsinki. That should be really really really great and am psyched.
So, sure, I miss out on The Avalanches, and it was a toss up between Cut Copy and Architecture in Helsinki on Sunday (I’ve seen Cutters a heap of times and I’ve never seen AiH live before). And then there’s Van She who are playing at Sneaky Sundays on Sunday afternoon. Kinda wish we booked tix to that, but then again, there’s no point in going if it’s gonna clash with AiH.
But, yes. Am still friggin happy to be heading up. The Opera House is an amazing venue, so this should be a goodun!!
To celebrate, we got a few tracks and clips just below for you.

ok. So if you follow us on Facebook, you might have noticed that a week ago, i said that i would repost some of the better tracks that haven’t gotten that much download love of late. I’m going to do a few of these. And they’ll be themed(ish). First is some of the early electronic stuff. Themed(ish) because there’s some breaks here as well as some vocal remix electro. But they’re all remixes though. I’m going to include the blog post as well as any band links, purchase links too. If you like, please support them in some way.
Anyway, without further ado, here are some of the better tracks that featured a few months ago on ze blogo.

Leave Them All Behind III
ok. so this is a pretty decent compilation. It’s from the Aussie label, Modular. The release has two discs, one mixed and one unmixed. I’ve crapped on about this release before…you can check that out here.
The mix cd is done by Andee Frost, a member of the Bang Gang Deejays. It’s good good good and has a really nice track selection. Canyons, Van She, Knightlife, The Golden Filter, Bag Raiders etc etc etc. All pretty darn sweet. The disc crams 23 tracks into an hour and 20 mins though, so there’s only a bit of some tracks…but yeah, i guess that’s the same for any mix. Only having 2:02 mins of the 7:27 min epic Blue Snakes was a bit of a let down though. And, whilst i’m on the not so amazingly great points, the mix does seem to end kinda abruptly.
But yeah, all in all, it’s a gooooooooooooooooooooood, nice, hey, it’s even a little dope, mix.
That’s only half of it though. The second disc, the unmixed one, has opened me up. Not in a medical surgical way…oh, and not in a sexual way either (just to clarify there ok?). It’s opened me up to new tracks, new artists. Being a music blogger, you realise how much shit is out there and you are constantly realising that you’re never going to be at the forefront of what’s happening…purely because what’s new changes every second. But then you get a good compilation…such as this one, and you begin to explore the work of artists you may only know the name of because you read it on a blog somewhere.
Anyway, I degress. Some of the stuff on disc 2 i love are the opener, What You Need by Tiga (never thought i’d get into this dude), Skeleton Boy by Friendly Fires (this has been a fave for a while), One More Chance (Alex Metric Remix) by Bloc Party (niiiiiiiiiiicccccccccceeeee), Tonight’s Today by Jack Penate (know nothing about this dude except that i like like like this track), Counterpoint by Delphic (soarer), and 15 to 20 by The Phenomenal Handclap Band (fuuuuuunnnnnn!!!!!).
Anyway, there’s some good tracks here, all compiled from Modular’s extensive catalogue.
To leave you with, the one i knew nothing about, but now wish i knew everything about.
(Check out Mr Penate on MySpace, and buy the compilation here at JB)

remix that #4
ok. so i haven’t done one of these in ages!! the only reason i’m putting one out there now is because I’ve found a few pretty mint remixes of late. They’re all pretty good tracks in my opinion. All pretty mint selections. Haha…mint. I never use that word. maybe this is the beginning of something??!!
haha…mmm…mints…yaeh…umm…this ain’t a food (or confectionery) blog.
The remixes are: (finally, i got there!)
First up, it’s a track by Noah & The Whale. They’ve got a new one called Blue Skies. It’s getting a fair few remixes from those in blog land. Perhaps the most prominent (and maybe the best) is one by Brazilian dudes, The Twelves.
Noah & The Whale – Blue Skies (Twelves Remix)
Another one out there is by those crazy artists YACHT. I came across this one first, and I must say, i think it’s pretty rad. Radical man.

Another track that has been getting pretty massive lately is Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders. This track first appeared on the Turbo Love EP last year. They’re now set to release it as a single (read up on it here) with a few remixes to go along with it. One of those is by a bit of a legend, Kris Menace.

ok. Last but not least, it’s Destination by Damn Arms. I’m really a bit pissed about these guys. They’ve called it a day and I only just discovered them. But, I’ve discovered that one half of Damn Arms is G.L.O.V.E.S. His remix of Changes by Van She is stella. Apparently G.L.O.V.E.S. is planning on doing more stuff, so that should be pretty exciting. Sameish as Damn Arms i hope. This remix is by Ted & Francis who are signed to Kitsune and are from Sydney. Local represent.
