NEW ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI.
Architecture in Helsinki dropped a brand new single this morning. A definite continuation on the pop goodness that came from Moment Bends, ‘In The Future’ nails that pop sensibility adding a slight level of sophistication to it.
You can stream the single below, and if you dig, it’s available on iTunes from today!

TRIPLE J HOTTEST 100.
Yep, so think of it what you will, but this thing always manages to end up being a pretty massive day as well as creating a bit of controversy. Be it not having any females…to Angus & Julia Stone winning with a song about a big fucking plane. Shannon Noll sang about a big car…didn’t see him winning anything! (JOKES!)
Because maamf hasn’t done a best tracks of 2011 list (it is simply too hard and I think the ‘art’ of making a good album is more interesting), I thought I should post up what tracks I voted for in this years Hottest100. These are in no order…but hopefully they reflect my diverse taste which I try to put across on this here blog. If you still havent voted, then it all closes TOMORROW NIGHT! That’s Monday 16th Jan Midnight AEST. You can do so here. I do warn you though, it takes some time!
Without further ado:
Snakadaktal – Air
Oscar + Martin – Do The Right Thing
Step-Panther – My Neck
Battles – Ice Cream (Feat. Matias Aguayo)
Twerps – Dreamin
Architecture In Helsinki – Contact High
Gotye – Somebody That I Used to Know (feat. Kimbra)
M83 – Midnight City
Loon Lake – Bad to Me
Love Migrate – Little Kid

VOLITAIRE TWINS.
This has been sitting in the inbox for a while…and I don’t really know why.
Voltaire Twins have been around for a little while, but their new single, Animalia is doing some pretty good things. Getting play on the J’s, getting blogged a heap, and some really decent remixes. Naice!
The track has a bit of a dark side to it, even if it does get you up, around, bouncing off walls. Those little yells at the end of the chorus line kill it I reckon.
Anywho, check out the original as well as the Purple Sneakers remix. The download comes with remixes from Lifelike, PS DJs, as well as a remix by Voltaire Twins themselves…but, in my books, the PS remix, just wins. just. You can download the single as well as the remixes over at their website.

And as a bonus, we got their remix of the Architecture in Helisinki massive, Escapee. If you have’t remixed this, then I don’t know who the hell you are, coz it seems like everyone and their dog has had a shot. There’s is a goodun though!
What We Thought: VIVID LIVE Sydney.
ok. So, above are some of the pics taken on both Friday and Sunday nights up at VIVID Live in Syds town. We had a pretty darn good time up in Sydney town and man, partying around the Opera House was something pretty spesh.
First up on Friday night we caught Softwar, The Swiss, Beni, Azari & III and Bag Raiders. To get there and it be already be pumping despite the lack of peeps of ze floor was something. Softwar put in a pretty decent set. Then it was The Swiss…and man, I can see what people have been talking about. For me, I don’t usually get out to the clubs…it’s usually the live indie stuff that I check out live. But man, The Swiss were amazing.

The Swiss – Soap Opera
We took some time out then, caught the tail end of Beni’s set and then it was time for the main reason I was there. Canadian’s Azari & III. Yikes. They did this live set that blew me away a fair bit. They two guys that head them up are darn good performers – real stage presence. Indigo easily got the most feet moving.
Azari & III – Indigo
Then it was Bag Raiders turn…and to be honest, they were good, but yeah, I think we were kinda knackered by then.

Sunday night was Architecture in Helsinki night. And, i’m just gonna put it out there now, but their gig was perhaps one of the greatest gigs I’ve ever seen. There. I said it. I definitely wasn’t expecting it either. As is the perils of writing a review nearly a week after the gig, I can’t tell you exactly what tracks they played, but I can tell you that man, Cameron and Kellie can sing. And they’re all super talented musos.
So, the definite highlight for me was Heart It Races. An oldie, but man they pulled it out at the exact right time. Just before they left the stage before their encore, the guys played Heart It Races. It was the most psyched I’ve been at a gig in ages. Absolutely ages. It built and built and built until everyone was on their feet losing their absolute shit. And then for the encore they finished off with Contact High, which was bloody great.

Anyway, that’s been a pretty crap review I know. Really should’ve gotten this up earlier…

VIVID LIVE
ok. So tonight, VIVID LIVE begins. I am a little excited. I also live in Melbourne. And this is a two week festival. So, i’m heading up tonight and heading back Monday (Can’t afford to stay the full two weeks ya know.)
For me, it’s going to be part get away/part excitement times. We’re checking out the Leave Them All Behind party tonight which features Bag Raiders, Azari & III, Beni, Softwar, The Swiss and Softblow DJs. LINEUP ANYONE??!!
Then on Sunday night we’re checking out Architecture In Helsinki. That should be really really really great and am psyched.
So, sure, I miss out on The Avalanches, and it was a toss up between Cut Copy and Architecture in Helsinki on Sunday (I’ve seen Cutters a heap of times and I’ve never seen AiH live before). And then there’s Van She who are playing at Sneaky Sundays on Sunday afternoon. Kinda wish we booked tix to that, but then again, there’s no point in going if it’s gonna clash with AiH.
But, yes. Am still friggin happy to be heading up. The Opera House is an amazing venue, so this should be a goodun!!
To celebrate, we got a few tracks and clips just below for you.

AiH + CLOCK OPERA
wowzers.
Love this remix. Clock Opera are all sorts of good and have taken what has been one of the best tracks of the year so far and found something in it and made it their own. I love the fact that they’ve changed the chord progression and, in a way, have changed the whole intention of the track. This is remixing at it’s best in my books.
Thanks to the amazing dudes over at RCRD LBL for this one – give them some love.
Architecture in Helsinki record drops this Friday here so i’m kinda pumped.
VIVID LIVE LINEUP LEAKED.
ok, so super thanks to the excellent dudes at The Vine for this. They’ve managed to find out some of the VIVID Live linup via some sneaky detective work. Whilst this is everything but set in stone, it’s still fucking a+.

For me it’s the fact that The Avalanches are playing. I think i’m definitely going to have to fly up to Syds town for this one. Excitement is a bit of an understatement.
UPDATE:
It seems every site under the sun are saying that they got there first. I got my info off The Vine, but it seems as though awesome bros Pedestrian as well as Mess + Noise and a few others have got the ‘exclusive’ too. I think the real winner here is the inner detective in all of us.
CUT COPY + ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI
two bands who are/will be talk of the year when it comes to album of the year lists are Cut Copy and Architecture in Helsinki.
And looky what I just came across…Cutters and AIH together!
If this isn’t one of the sweetest reworks unlike most other stuff you’ve heard, then I don’t know what is. It’s AIH reworking new Cutters single Need You Now making what was a pretty upbeat Cutters track to this downbeat, loungy, almost Spanish sounding (with those guitar ‘frills’) ditty.
NEW ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI!!
I secretly love Architecture In Helsinki. They’re stuff is always fun. And, what’s better, is that they’ve finally got a new album coming out. That Beep, which was released a few years ago, was a great track, although a little change of sound. This new one, Contact High, is a bit of a mix between their older DIY sounding stuff, and the more produced sound of That Beep. I’m liking this heaps…and I reckon you might too.
The new album is called Moment Bends and is coming out on Modular (they only just signed with these guys!) on April 8. They’re also doing an Aussie tour in May too (plus Playground Weekender, MS Fest, Golden Plains, and Groovin The Moo from this weekend until May. Check out the touring deets on the Modular site. Also make sure you grab the single when it hits ze stores on Tuesday (22nd)
