So Andy Bull has been kicking around for a while now. He’s had some big play on triple j and hell, I think even a bit of commercial radio play, especially after his first album came out. But he never seems to have properly, and to use a wanky term, ‘cut-through’. It doesn’t feel as though he’s a name that people recognise, and although I could spend some time deliberating as to why that may be, I won’t.
His new track ‘Baby I Am Nobody Now’ is ace in my books. Taking that piano sound and fucking with it. His stuff already has a bit of a funky feel to it, but this new track, with the cut up piano/vocals and that drum groove, make it really bloody funky. The unfiltered, dare I say natural, sounding piano lines that happen at the end of some of Andy’s lyric lines helps to keep it still piano driven, and authentic to what Andy Bull has built his career on.
