ok. So, above are some of the pics taken on both Friday and Sunday nights up at VIVID Live in Syds town. We had a pretty darn good time up in Sydney town and man, partying around the Opera House was something pretty spesh.
First up on Friday night we caught Softwar, The Swiss, Beni, Azari & III and Bag Raiders. To get there and it be already be pumping despite the lack of peeps of ze floor was something. Softwar put in a pretty decent set. Then it was The Swiss…and man, I can see what people have been talking about. For me, I don’t usually get out to the clubs…it’s usually the live indie stuff that I check out live. But man, The Swiss were amazing.

We took some time out then, caught the tail end of Beni’s set and then it was time for the main reason I was there. Canadian’s Azari & III. Yikes. They did this live set that blew me away a fair bit. They two guys that head them up are darn good performers – real stage presence. Indigo easily got the most feet moving.

Then it was Bag Raiders turn…and to be honest, they were good, but yeah, I think we were kinda knackered by then.
Sunday night was Architecture in Helsinki night. And, i’m just gonna put it out there now, but their gig was perhaps one of the greatest gigs I’ve ever seen. There. I said it. I definitely wasn’t expecting it either. As is the perils of writing a review nearly a week after the gig, I can’t tell you exactly what tracks they played, but I can tell you that man, Cameron and Kellie can sing. And they’re all super talented musos.
So, the definite highlight for me was Heart It Races. An oldie, but man they pulled it out at the exact right time. Just before they left the stage before their encore, the guys played Heart It Races. It was the most psyched I’ve been at a gig in ages. Absolutely ages. It built and built and built until everyone was on their feet losing their absolute shit. And then for the encore they finished off with Contact High, which was bloody great.

Anyway, that’s been a pretty crap review I know. Really should’ve gotten this up earlier…
ok. So tonight, VIVID LIVE begins. I am a little excited. I also live in Melbourne. And this is a two week festival. So, i’m heading up tonight and heading back Monday (Can’t afford to stay the full two weeks ya know.)
For me, it’s going to be part get away/part excitement times. We’re checking out the Leave Them All Behind party tonight which features Bag Raiders, Azari & III, Beni, Softwar, The Swiss and Softblow DJs. LINEUP ANYONE??!!
Then on Sunday night we’re checking out Architecture In Helsinki. That should be really really really great and am psyched.
So, sure, I miss out on The Avalanches, and it was a toss up between Cut Copy and Architecture in Helsinki on Sunday (I’ve seen Cutters a heap of times and I’ve never seen AiH live before). And then there’s Van She who are playing at Sneaky Sundays on Sunday afternoon. Kinda wish we booked tix to that, but then again, there’s no point in going if it’s gonna clash with AiH.
But, yes. Am still friggin happy to be heading up. The Opera House is an amazing venue, so this should be a goodun!!
To celebrate, we got a few tracks and clips just below for you.

The Cosmo Black boys are back again with another great track, this time an original. When Night Becomes the Morn is this big, loopy (both in the ‘hey, look, i’m crazy’ and loops of sounds, music kinda way), percussive electro track that is definitely going to take Cosmo Black from that band you think you’ve heard of but not sure where to that band that sing that awesome song When Night Becomes the Morn.
The single is going to feature a DCUP remix too. DCUP is the go-to dude at the moment aye? Remix is a funky house rendition of the original with this killer keys motif that goes right through. Awesome. Check it down below.
If you like both the original and the DCUP remix but want even more, well then you’re a fuckin greedy bugger.
You also may be in luck…but you gotta get yourself to a Cosmo Black show. Towards the end of the year, the boys are selling a limited edition of the single with some extra cool artwork and a remix from SidWho? and Mitolo. These dudes are from another extra talented Adelaide crew. You know, you may have heard of them. They’re only called THE SWISS and they fuckin rock.
ok. A bit of a freebee just for you kids. Awesome Adelaidians, The Swiss are playing in Melbourne this Friday night and, from what i’ve heard, they should be a little awesome. They’re playing down at Mercat Cross (just near Queen Vic Market) with the ever awesome Knightlife as well as killer locals Andee Frost (he’s got one of the best radio shows in Melbourne), Tornado Wallace, and Ontologic. It’s all thanks to party dudes Animals Dancing and you can grab tix over at Moshtix.
Anyway, they’ve put together a mix to get you set for Friday night. Listen and die…of an earache because it is too awesomely good.

ok. I think one of my New Year Resolutions will be to find another record label other than Modular and Bang Gang 12″s that I think are the beezneezzz. So, without further ado, I promise you my last ever Mod/Bang specific post! (NB. Promises are made to be broken right? oh wait…that’s rules. anyway…i’m not good at keeping promises…wow…not really painting a very good picture of myself am i??!!)
First off, The Swiss. What’s perhaps the best thing about these dudes is that they don’t hail from your typical electro scene of Melbourne or Sydney. The Swiss are from Adelaide, proving it doesn’t matter where you came from, it’s how you do it that counts. Ohh…how sweet. I posted their track Movement 1 a while ago, and they do some bloody great disco. As I said in my earlier post, these dudes are a definite indication that disco may well be sticking around for a while yet. This is a newy from the recently signed Modular boys. It’s called Bubble Bath. It’s due out on Jan 29th, and the EP is going to feature some remixes from Tensnake and Knightlife. BAM!
Second for the day is a dude out of Melbourne/Sydney. He’s called Cassian. He is pretty bloody good also. He kinda has that disco feel too, like the Swiss, but far more electro. The fella is signed to Bang Gang 12″s and has already featured pretty heavily on their compilations. I definitely recommend checking out the Bang Gang 12″s MySpace for some of the acts on their list. I’m not sure if a better crew of electro goodness could ever be assembled. Anyway, this is a new one from Cassian. It’s called The Fuck Song. And it features on his new release, the Friday Night EP.
K. That’ll do the ramble for now
