TAXIDERMY HALL.

Yesterday I bought a digital radio. I’m glad I did…coz now I can listen to triple j unearthed as well as radar without wasting my bandwidth.

Yesterday on unearthed, I heard a track by Taxidermy Hall – a Kiwi now living in Melbourne.

Their track Pan be some super smooth pop. It’s driving music on a hot summer’s day. It’s singalong. It’s pretty chill…and it’s pretty perfect pop.

HAYDEN CALNIN.

ok. So I actually caught this guy just over a year ago support the now name-changed Goodnight Owl. Only catching a track or two, I was impressed, but kinda forgot about him.

Then Love Migrate (the new Goodnight Owl), posted a link to Hayden Calnin’s Unearthed profile. So, i checked him out. And downloaded the two tracks on his profile. And yes. This guy is really really impressive.

Reminds me a bit of Goodnight Owl in it’s folky sound – his voice reminds me of Eddie’s from those guys/Love Migrate. There’s also a real feel of Oscar + Martin to him. And man, that is always a good thing (on a side note, the Oscar + Martin album is still looking to take album of the year for me. so good!)

Anyway, below are two tracks, Winter and Summer taken from his soon to be released City EP. Check it!

THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART

ok. Super short post.

Although I do like the cold and the winter, this track feels so bloody summery. The Pains of Being Pure At Heart had a bit of a fave album a year or so back. Still can do no wrong!

Summer Lovin’

Ok, so before the whole end of year lists things start, I though it would be nice of me to do a bit of a summer playlist (sorry peeps up there in the northern hemisphere!).

These are tracks that get me a little pumped for summer. Drinking out in the sun, getting shitbad sunburnt etc.

There’s some new stuff and some old stuff here. But, all of these guys have had a pretty decent year and here’s hoping next year is even better! Have decided to go for an all Australian lot too. Hopefully there’s some stuff up here that you dig!

So, without further adooooooo, here we go!

the birth of new technology

Do you think bands try and stay current by using a name that references popular things? If that’s what Swedish dudes, The Radio Dept. were trying to do then I think they’re about 100 years late. But you know what? I don’t think that’s what they were aiming for. If you follow Hype Machine, then you would’ve noticed that these guys are already very heavily blogged and they decided on the name in ’95…so umm…radio’s were probably all the rage then.

Heavens On Fire comes from their third album ‘Clinging To A Scheme’ which is out on April 21. The track uses this old sample (uncleared I might add) from Thurston Moore (from Sonic Youth) championing youth culture and rock ‘n’ roll. Great way to start the track off. But I think it’s the summer feel behind it that makes me love this track so much. The Radio Dept. have been around for a while…and how the fuck didn’t I hear of their stuff before??!! They had a big track last year called David…which I think went a little unnoticed for me. Ah well, always the way of a music blogger – never on top of everything!

Anyway, it’s great smooth summery pop. Great key riff that’s repeated nearly the whole way through, and everything’s just so laid back. Just in time for our summer aye?!

YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

Good eh? You know it.
