new albums..
ok. So, on Saturday i went and celebrated World Record Store Day. I went to Polyester Music in the city – the new store. Great place to shop definately. Anyway, so as part of their day, they had ‘celebs’ come in and work behind the counter and slow down proceedings because they didn’t know how to open a till. Well, actually, by the time I got there (around 5pm), they were pretty fast. Although it did take Lawrence Leung a while for him to find my CD’s. Hehe…I love his show – the Fight Cube ep was on last week and I really should’ve said that I loved his stuff but I didn’t. I’m always like that around celebs. Anyway, Alan Brough, was also there auctioning massive posters off which was good too. 20% of the proceeds went to the Cancer Council so it was a worthy cause. Anyway, Polyester put on a great job. Check those guys out here.
The two CD’s i bought were Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy’s Beware, and Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion. Both are great in their own right and you can expect a review of the Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy album up soon (uni is getting the better of me lately).
But, something to leave you guys with.
YOU MUST CHECK OUT AND SIGN UP TO THE AVALANCHES WEBSITE. If you love the Since I Left You album, then, once you’ve signed up to their website (it’s all free and you don’t get spammed) you have to download the ‘track’ Gimix. It’s pretty large though, but it is a reworking of the whole album with a bit of Beatles, Dylan and Lauper thrown into the mix. Freakin Excellent.
Anyway, new album review coming up soon guys.
K. That’ll do the ramble for now.
remix that
K…so have been scouring hype machine lately and have found a few really nice tracks, mostly remixes. Whilst some of the tracks I haven’t heard before, a few I have and they all do a pretty good job at rejigging them.
So, without further ado, here’s my list.
- Little Boots – New In Town (Fred Falke Remix)
- The Golden Filter – Solid Gold (this could be one of my faves in a while…)
- Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy (Paul Epworth Version)
- Wale – W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. (just D.A.N.C.E. by Justice with US Rapper Wale doing his thing over it. Good track. Fun!)
- Sia – Buttons (CSS Remix)
- Peter Bjorn and John – Lay It Down (The Golden Filter Remix)
- Phoenix – 1901 (Mr Vega Remix)
- La Mode – Salami
You can check some of them out below…

where does new music come from mum?
Good question, son.
Actually, you know what? I’ve only written one line and I can’t continue this whole ‘the talk’ theme. Would get really weird. Like…really.
…
OK. Normal mode now.
I thought I’d ask you guys where you find the best new music?
I personally choose to go through:
- The Triple J music page
- The Nova100 music page (tend to be a hit and miss with some of this stuff)
- Launchpad Uplate on Nova100. You have to listen to this show purely because they don’t have a page on the Nova website and there’s no way of accessing their playlist
- 2009 on Triple J. This is probably one of the best places. Good interviews etc.
- Incoming on RRR
- The New Releases section of the iTunes Store
- The Music page on The Vine
- The Hear page on ThreeThousand
- The amazing blogs that are in the Blogs I Like section just below.
That’s quite a few spots actually…now I think of it. Anyway, if you feel the need for new music, check them out! They’re all great in their own right. Do you guys have any other ways? If so, let me know!
Also, for free shit (mp3′s in technical talk), check out the
- Triple J free music page
- The J Play free music page
- The Rolling Stone free mp3 blog
- Most of the awesome blogs in the Blogs I Like section below.
Anyway, I’ll have a proper post up soon guys. This one was just to keep the momentum up.

New Music First
Hmm…sounds suspiciously like a certain radio station’s motto. Ah well. I can copy. Not like anyone is actually reading this!
So yes, I haven’t blogged in ages, and although this isn’t a proper blog of sorts…it’ll will suffice for now.
I’ve recently compiled a list of new tracks I’ve been listening to frantically. Some are new new, some came out last year and I’ve only just discovered them.
Here they are:
- Zero – Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Not The Yeah Yeah Yeahs as has been pointed out to me lately)
- Weekend Wars – MGMT
- Blind – Hercules and Love Affair (never thought i could get into something sung by Antony from Antony and The Johnsons, but this track does it for me)
- My Delirium – Ladyhawke
- Fuck You – Lily Allen (I got a dodge version that cuts out half way through…back to Limewire for me!)
- No You Girls – Franz Ferdinand (Just got today. Pretty darn good!)
- One Month Off – Bloc Party (All their stuff seems to be the same although their newer stuff is a bit more electro)
- Sweaty (Shazam Remix) – Muscles (He’s a twat but he writes good tunes. Good remix also – have been meaning to get my hands on this for a while now.)
- If I Know You – The Presets (So happy these guys are big. Such a cool sound which I didn’t think would get played on commercial radio at all.)
- Tonight – Yuksek (Awesome French house…Daft Punk influence? Anyone?!)
- We Are The People – Empire of The Sun (These guys got a pretty decent write up in NME last week. Although they did state what everyone else has stated and said how much they sounded like MGMT. I don’t think they sound that alike though…maybe that’s just me!)
- Being Here – The Stills (I think these guys are supporting Kings Of Leon. They have a freaking great sound. Really good stuff)
- I Believe (Feat D’Angelo) – Q-Tip (I remember hearing a D’Angelo record being played in a big boomy room when I studied music and from then on, I’ve grown a real appreciation for good Soul Hip Hop kinda stuff)
- Dog Days Are Over – Florence And The Machine (These guys seem to be getting pretty darn massive)
- Ulysses – Franz Ferdinand (No reason for having two FF songs in the list – just got No You Girls Today and haven’t deleted this one yet. Still trying to get my head around the rhythm in the chorus…)
- Mr Pitiful – Matt Costa (Good little singer songwriter track. Should be more popular than he is I think!)
- Geraldine – Glasvegas (They’re also a band I think are getting pretty darn massive.)
- Oh No – Andrew Bird (This is a nice sweet track. If you like whistling then you’ll love this. If you don’t…well then I’m sorry.)
- Sequestered In Memphis – The Hold Steady (Awesome song! Such a good feel to it. Once again, shame these guys aren’t getting more play)
- Happy Up Here – Royksopp (I remember a song of theirs a few years ago although the name escapes me just for the moment. Great chilled funky electro sound.)
- The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance – Vampire Weeend (I’ve heard this album is amazing…still gotta get my hands on it.)
That’s it for me. I’ll try and get a proper post up soon – been busy with uni, work, and the ActNow project.
