Woah. No, you didn’t read that incorrectly. This is the September edition of the maamf mixtape series. After a crazy busy month or so, I’ve finally gotten round to chucking all my fave tracks of the month into one tape. All local stuff, all fucking good.
Electric Empire – Changin’
Hungry Kids of Hungary – Sharp Shooter
Maxi – From The Start
Step-Panther – Maybe Later
Damn Terran – Pills
South City Sushi Cop – Bad Blocks
DEJA – Luststruck (Cosmo Black Remix)
Twerps – Work It Out
So every once and a while you sleep on a track and then come across a remix that forces you to go back and re-listen to the original. The artist in question is Melbourne singer Maxi and the remixer is new kid on the Sydney block Adam Sandlah.
The track is Maxi’s latest single, ‘From The Start’.
The original has this real funky vibe to it – from those condensed drum sounds to the keyboard groove. And then, of course, Maxi’s super hot vocals on top.
The remix adds this cool, disco house feel to it. Put against this straight up groove, it keeps the verses simple – bass, beat, and vox. Added in the chorus is that hella good horn line and a funkier groove.
I’d keep an eye out on Sandlah. Could be ontoagoodthing.
Check out Maxi, a local singer songwriter, doing some lovely vocal layering and pretty chilled electronic pop.
Her debut single, In A Little While is such a well crafted pop track – with that slow, moody atmospheric intro, the slow building groove of the verse, the killer chorus with that bass line and then that really nice layered outro.
The track is set for an official release in a couple of weeks (July 23) and is the first lifted off her debut EP, due out in September.
