THE PREATURES.

This is one of the tracks that have seriously made my May. And I know I’m a little late to the party, but hey, I’ve had a month off ok?

It’d be hard not to notice these guys. With easily one of the catchiest tracks of the year, The Preatures are bringing that funky singalong soul right back and hitting you smack bang in the face with it. New single ‘Is This How You Feel?’ seriously kicks you for 6, with it’s dual vocals and that drum and guitar groove that is enough to make anyone move no matter what the fuck they’re doing.

You can grab the single from iTunes and keep an eye out for a new EP due out soon too.

The clip is also pretty darn classic. Just the band looking all sexy with some great lights and words etc.

WORLD’S END PRESS.

Brand new jam from Melbourne fellas World’s End Press, a band who is finally releasing their debut album in the second half of this year. New single ‘To Send Our Love’ is almost a little darker than previous work, and with Tim Goldsworthy (of DFA records) at the helm, the production is fucking mint too.

The gents are doing a run of shows to help launch the new single. If you’re in Sydney, make sure you check them out at Brighton Up as they play three Thursday nighters there throughout August. Full tour details here.

SURF CITY.

Surf-City

So this is what I mean when I say I’ve gotta play some catch up. Surf City are from Aukland. I know, not Australian, but the guys use to play here a bit and, well…they hold a pretty special place in this blog’s life, having made my top 10 of 2010 with their last album Kudos (before this here blog became exclusively about Australian music).

Surf City are also just a fucking great band. So, when I finally read that these guys were releasing a new album entitled We Knew It Was Not Going To Be Like This in August, I got pretty darn excited. The first taste off the new album is ‘It’s A Common Life’, a jam that is full of the fuzzed out guitar that only a New Zealand band can pull off. It also has a freakin’ killer chorus that you have to sing along to.

APRIL ’13 MIX.

april13mix

Ok, so here we are. All ready and back and stuff. Before I get into the much delayed April mixtape, just wanted to say thanks for hanging around, those of you that did. The love on the facebook page was great. I needed this time off for various reasons, and although the fact that I’m back doesn’t mean I’m going to be posting everyday, things will be a little more regular.

Ok, so enough of that. Below is a pretty bumper mix of my fave tracks from April. Given the time delay, I thought I should add in a fair few tracks, so the mix is a full 17 tracks long. As with every month, you can stream it and download it below, and I’ve also included some of the tracks as free download.

TAKIN’ A BREAK.

May Break image

Nope, not some name of some band. Instead, it’s indeed literal. MAAMF is taking a small bit of a break. Plan is to be back first week of June, and I’ll be sure to have a whole heap of content up then including a much delayed April Mixtape, the May Mixtape as well as a few other little goodies.

I won’t bore you with why I need the time off, coz quite frankly, it’s pretty boring.

See you in June!!

GANG OF YOUTHS.

So if these gents aren’t on to something big, then I don’t know what the fuck to believe. Over on the Gang Of Youths soundcloud page, the first track I ever heard from the boys, ‘Strange Diseases’ has been taken down leaving just the amazing and haunting ‘Riverlands’ as well as a newy, ‘Knuckles White Dry (Car Ride Home)’. And whilst taking down a track doesn’t necessarily mean anything, that coupled with the boys relentless gigging, teaming up with Mirror Music, and posting pics of them in the recording studio over on their facebook page has Detective Miks thinking that somethin’s goin’ on. Maybe a proper re-record of the track?

But all we got to go on at the moment is the new track. As opposed to that big anthemic pop that ‘Strange Diseases’ nailed, the new track sounds much like ‘Riverlands’ in that it’s a distorted piano just with vocals as well as some added guitar. It is seriously nice too.

Seriously keep an eye on these gents. 2013 will be a massive year for ‘em I reckon!

NEIGHBOURHOOD YOUTH.

1999360131-1

These guys are seriously an ace band. Producing some of that emotive indie rock that doesn’t make you cringe, Neighbourhood Youth are  four Melbourne dudes nailing it. The guys have a new single out ‘My Friends’, as well as a clip for the track. The clip is bloody nice – really well shot and captures the feel beautifully.

You can stream/purchase the track below as well as the clip.

The boys are also half way through a tour to help launch the single. Deets here.

GOLDSMITH.

Goldsmith are quite excellent. From Newcastle these guys have been kicking around for only 12 months or so, and are already nailing that ethereal indie pop that almost wants to fly above you, lift you gently by the shoulders and fly you away. New single ‘Backbone’ sounds like music from a different era, although an era that perhaps hasn’t happened yet.

Download it from the bands Unearthed page. And if you dig, check em out on tour – details here.

MESSRS.

Brand newy from Adelaide gents Messrs. Doing that live indie dance vibe pretty well, these guys know their way around a killer pop song too.

The guys are launching their new single Running Wild with a fair few shows around the country – dates here.
