You think Paparazzi…you don’t really get a great impression. Dudes with cameras shoving their gear in front of any remotely famous person they can find.
Then you think Erik Paparazzi. This dude played with Cat Power for quite a while…and he’s finally putting out his solo record under the name The Paparazzi (the originals were recorded way back in 2004). The tracks are really nice. They’ve got this massive Liam Finn feel about them too which is definitely cool (I love Liam Finn – his album I’ll Be Lightning from a few years back is a bit of a fave).
The tracks themselves had been sitting on the backburner since they were originally recorded in 2004. After heading out on tour with Cat Power, he began playing around with some of the originals and rejigged the tracks. Serious Business Records picked it up and it got a proper release last month.
Check out the Finn-esque Hi just below, as well as the slow groover The Rococo Tape. You can also check out the full album on iTunes.
